ADHD in Adult Men
ADHD is not a character flaw in men. ADHD is a real disorder that affects the brain’s structure, function, and chemistry.
Men with undiagnosed ADHD face different challenges and experience symptoms of ADHD not generally encountered by women, like hyperactivity and impulsivity. Men with ADHD also grapple with the stigma that makes asking for help a weakness.
Alternatively, if a man was not hyperactive or impulsive as a boy, it’s possible that adults in his life never considered ADHD and his symptoms were missed.
Men not diagnosed with ADHD in childhood were likely missed because they struggled with inattention and introversion - different than the majority of boys. Now, as adults, they still question if there is something wrong with them; "Am I lazy?,” "Stupid?," or "Not good enough?" In reality, they are none of these things. They have ADHD.
At ADHD Assessment Clinic, we understand the challenges of adult men with ADHD.
Over 4 million men in the U.S. currently have Attention-deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder - many coping with symptoms for years.
If this is you, we recognize that challenges presented by ADHD are now likely affecting your career, relationships, daily routines and more. ADHD Assessment Clinic is here to help you take the first critical step toward identifying and diagnosing your symptoms - supporting you in pursuing a path to a more fulfilling and successful life.
Childhood experience with the condition may differ based on gender socialization. Research has not yet determined affects and outcomes attributed to sex difference versus gender socialization and bias. We welcome all individuals into our practice for assessment of symptoms.
ADHD affects fathers, husbands, brothers, professionals and friends.
