ADHD in Adult Women

Comprehensive testing for ADHD can give a woman answers to challenges she’s been struggling with for years like;

Managing my children, family, home, and relationships, leaves me feeling defeated and exhausted, or,

It feels like everyone else has it together while I can barely make it through the day, or,

I’ve been diagnosed with anxiety or depression, and still don’t feel better - even with medication.

I’m exhausted seeing one practitioner and then another to help me understand my symptoms and still don’t have an actionable diagnosis or treatment plan.

Women with ADHD often exhibit internalizing symptoms, such as inattentiveness and distractedness, but sometimes present with hyperactivity and impulsivity, which are more commonly associated with ADHD in men. This difference in symptoms can lead to misdiagnosis in women (anxiety and mood dysregulation), as their symptoms may not fit the stereotypical image of ADHD.

At ADHD Assessment Clinic, we understand.

Over 4 million adult women in the U.S. currently live with Attention-deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), many of whom don’t know it, or don’t realize the challenges they are experiencing have a name – and solutions.

Women, it turns out, are excellent at masking their symptoms behind a façade of competence, attempting to live up to societal expectations, yet often grappling with feelings of restlessness, disorganization, and emotional dysregulation. Most women with ADHD go undiagnosed well into adulthood, sometimes only realizing their condition when their child receives a diagnosis.

Childhood experience with the condition may differ based on gender socialization. Research has not yet determined affects and outcomes attributed to sex difference versus gender socialization and bias. We welcome all individuals into our practice for assessment of symptoms.

ADHD affects daughters, sisters, wives, mothers, and friends.
